Pimp My Chips

This week saw the release of the long awaited Ate Bit musicdisk, Pimp My Chips – featuring a selection of Spectrum covers of classic pop songs. Musical contributions came from Mofobaru, Simon, Nik-O and myself, and the full pack is well worth a download if you’re suitably Windows-executable-equipped. If you don’t, or you’re more of an instant-gratification-click-and-listen type (or a stick-it-on-your-mp3-player type), here are my tracks as friendly bandwidth-hogging MP3s.

  1. Some of the best chip music I’ve heard. Those for a penchant for psychoacoustics can appreciate Matt’s natural ability to fill every last nuance of an AY Chip with the most dominant parts of a mix.

Paranoid Android is my fave here, but it’s pretty much all class.

That paranoid android cover is pretty much spot on. Excellent work Matt.

  3. Jon Leighton says:

    That is just awesome :)

  4. Dylan Smith says:

    Paranoid Android is awesome.

How about a download we can load into a Spectrum, too? I’d love to show off my 128k toastrack to lesser mortals playing Paranoid Android!

Superb. I’ve sent the Paranoid Android cover to Colin Murray’s Black Hole on Radio 1 to see if they’ll play it. They’ve recently had a penchant for playing Radiohead covers so you never know…

  6. Can someone be so good as to tell me what album or from what source Gas Man’s Paranoid Android is from?

I am unable to find it on his discography and writing a piece on it.

    Hi Paul,

The direct answer is as described on this page… Gasman is me, and my Paranoid Android cover was released on this collection, Pimp My Chips (published as a Windows executable, as is the custom on the demoscene: http://www.demoscene.info/the-demoscene/ ).

However, from your mention of a discography (I don’t have one written up anywhere – I really should…) I’m guessing you’ve mixed me up with one of the other musicians / bands who go by the name of Gasman – there are at least two of them besides me. In other words, this version of Paranoid Android is probably not by the Gasman you’re looking for :-)
