This reached second place in the 256-byte intro competition at raww.orgy 2006, the UK’s one and only Spectrum demo party. The concept was to take a rotozoomer, a demo effect well known for being smooth and fluid, and add a darker industrial side to it. I didn’t manage to get it to do everything I’d planned, but then that’s 256-byte size limits for you.

Train announcements
Tuesday, February 28th, 2006I have in my MP3 collection a George Carlin standup routine about how people add extra words to what they say to sound more important. “‘Police have responded to an emergency situation.’ No they haven’t, they’ve responded to an emergency!”
Heard a good one on the train tonight. “Smoking is forbidden on all parts of this train; this includes the toilet areas.”
Toilet areas? That sounds awfully uncivilised – don’t they have actual toilets then? Toilet areas are the sort of thing a cat would have, surely.

Chamonix
Thursday, February 2nd, 2006I’m back from a skiing holiday with folks from work, in Chamonix in the French Alps. It was my first experience of skiing apart from one afternoon on the dry slope at Pendle aged about ten, and over four days I acquired some stylish moves on the green run at Le Tour, a chronic fear of ski lifts, and a large quantity of photos which are up on my newly-created Flickr account.
